Hervorgegangen ist der Titel aus folgendem Preisausschreiben der "Zeitschrift für Handelswissenschaft und Handelspraxis", Ausgabe März 1909:
1. Gegenstand: Beschreibung a) entweder bewährter Einzeleinrichtungen von Unternehmungen der Industrie und des Handels (auch von Banken) oder b) der Organisation ganzer Geschäfte oder Geschäftsabteilungen solcher Unternehmungen (Buchhalterei usw.). Ausgeschlossen ist die Schilderung rein technischer Einrichtungen und der Selbstkostenberechnung als selbständiges Thema.
2. Bewerber: Alle Arbeiten müssen unmittelbar aus der Praxis geschöpft sein.

4. Preise: Für die drei besten Arbeiten setzt der Verlag folgende Preise aus:
  Erster Preis M 1.000,00
  Zweiter Preis M 500,00
  Dritter Preis M 300,00
Außerdem werden alle in der "Z. f. H. u. H." veröffentlichten Arbeiten honoriert.
5. Preisrichterkollegium: Das Preisrichterkollegium setzt sich zusammen aus den Herren:
Dr. R. Ehrenberg, ord. Prof. an der Universität Rostock, Direktor des Instituts für exakte Wirtschaftsforschung an der Universität Rostock i. M.,
Dr. J. Fr. Schär, Prof. der Handelswissenschaften, Direktor des handelswissenschaftlichen Seminars an der Handelshochschule Berlin;
Sowie den vier Herren Herausgebern der "Z. f. H. u. H.":
Dr. H. Nicklisch, Dozent an der Handelshochschule Leipzig,
Dr. Georg Obst, Dozent an der Handelshochschule Berlin,
Dr. Herm. Rehm, ord. Prof. an der Universität Straßburg i. E.,
k. k. Regierungs-Rat A. Schmid, k. k. ord. Prof. an der Export-Akademie Wien.
Die näheren Bestimmungen sind zu beziehen durch den Verlag der "Z. f. H. u. H.", Carl Ernst Poeschel, Leipzig, Seeburgstraße 57.
Die Redaktion. Der Verlag."Die Organisation der drei charakteristischen Bankarten: Großbank, mittlere Bank, Volksbank, wird in dem vorliegenden Buche in klarer, einfacher und doch gründlicher Weise geschildert."

This title resulted from the following prize competition announced by the "Zeitschrift für Handelswissenschaft und Handelspraxis" (Journal of Commercial Science and Business Practice), March 1909 edition:
1. Subject: A description of either a) proven individual arrangements of industrial and commercial enterprises (including banks), or b) the organization of entire businesses or business departments of such enterprises (bookkeeping, etc.). The description of purely technical arrangements and of cost accounting is excluded as an independent topic.
2. Contestants: All works must be drawn directly from practice.

4. Prizes: For the three best works the publisher offers the following prizes:
  First Prize: M 1,000.00
  Second Prize: M 500.00
  Third Prize: M 300.00
In addition, all works published in the "Z. f. H. u. H." will be remunerated.
5. Jury: The jury is composed of the following gentlemen:
