Family of Jacob Porges and Franziska Bondy (Prague)

Family tree

This page documents the family of Jacob Porges (b. ca. 1829-1830, † Prague 7 May 1898, age 68) and his wife Franziska Porges née Bondy. The family is documented through two paired faire-parts thirty-two years apart — Jacob's in 1898 and the 1930 announcement for their bachelor son Eduard. The descending line is notable for the double Löwit alliance, with two of Jacob's daughters marrying men of the Löwit family.

Family of Jacob Porges and Franziska Bondy

Jacob Porges (b. ca. 1829-1830, † Prague 7 May 1898, age 68)

married Franziska Porges née Bondy (predeceased 1930)

Agnes Porias née Porges — alive 1930

Eduard Porges († Prague 7 January 1930, bachelor)

The bachelor's death of 1930 is signed by his three sisters — Agnes Porias, Emma Löwit, Camilla Löwit — and his brother-in-law Ludwig Löwit. Funeral 9 January 1930 at the Strašnice Israelite Cemetery.

Emma Löwit née Porges — alive 1930

Camilla Löwit née Porges — alive 1930

Husband : Ludwig Löwit (named as brother-in-law of Eduard in 1930)

The double Löwit alliance — two of Jacob's daughters (Emma and Camilla) married into the Löwit family. The fact that Camilla's husband Ludwig Löwit signed Eduard's 1930 announcement as Schwager (brother-in-law) confirms the joint-family connection.

Primary-source faire-parts

Faire-part

Prager Tagblatt, 7 May 1898

Faire-part of Jacob Porges (Prague, † 7 May 1898, age 68)

Jacob Porges died at Prague on 7 May 1898 in his 69th year. The faire-part identifies his wife as Franziska née Bondy and lists the children Agnes, Eduard, Emma, Camilla — the four-child family that would carry the name forward into the inter-war period.

Faire-part

Prager Tagblatt, 8 January 1930

Faire-part of Eduard Porges (Prague, † 7 January 1930, bachelor)

Eduard Porges, son of Jacob and Franziska, died on Tuesday 7 January 1930 after a long, severe illness. As a bachelor, he had no wife or children of his own ; the faire-part is signed by his three sisters in their joint name :

  • Sisters : Agnes Porias, Emma Löwit, Camilla Löwit (née Porges)
  • Brother-in-law : Ludwig Löwit (Camilla's husband)

Funeral : Thursday 9 January 1930 at 2:30 p.m. at the Strašnice Israelite Cemetery.

The signature pattern definitively closes the documentation of this branch — with Eduard's death in 1930, the surviving Porges children of Jacob and Franziska are all daughters whose surnames have changed to Porias and Löwit (twice), extinguishing the Porges patrilineal name in this branch after a single generation.
